Dave Brown
Drummer/Percussionist/VOCALS
Dave Brown is a drummer from the Boston and Cape Cod area. His musical interests extend across the genres of Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Country, Southern Rock, Motown and other adjacent realms. He founded The Brown Dog Band in late 2022. The Band has generated, produced and distributed two albums: "Bluesville" and “Country Friends”. He has created, produced and performed as a featured artist in the TIME Series Project, notably across the 1st Album of the series entitled "About TIME. He is working on the 2nd album in the series as well.
Dave is partial to Gretsch "Renown Series" drums; however, he also plays out on Yamaha "Recording Customs" and DW "Collectors Series" He utilizes these brands to build out his micro, standard and stadium sized kits. He prefers Avedis Zildjian and Sabian cymbals, Gibraltar hardware; Vater & Vic Firth sticks; Remo heads and various LP branded instruments for his array of auxiliary percussion needs. In addition to the drums, he has played the vibraphone, marimba, timpani, timbales, and many other percussion instruments. He often provides background vocals on stage.
In recent years, Dave has performed with a number of bands including The Brown Dog Band, The Doonz Boys, Alan Arena, Front Street, Blues Town, The Hedges, Professor Harp, the Codsicles and others.
Over the years, he has enjoyed the privilege of sitting in with some well-known groups including South Coast Station, The James Montgomery Band, The Vibe, The Miami Sound Machine, The Maynard Ferguson Band, District 21, Hot Mess, Hudson Valley Line, Emerald Empire, Blue Man Group, Friendly Strangers, Crystal Ship, Column Cille, Big Night Dynamite, Syndicate, The Moonlighters, Lou Columbo. He has also jammed with Josh Albright, Fred Clayton and Bart Weisman to name a few.
He has performed across many music venues including The Music Room, The Parrot, Grumpy's, Mashpee Outdoor Summer Series, First Night-Chatham, O'Shea's Old Inne, the Osterville Library Summer Series, the Aselton Park Sumer Concert Series, Auld Triangle, Flat Iron Room, Manhattan Opera House, Blind Willie's and the Bat Bar. The Brown Dog Band has been featured on such radio stations as WKKI 90.7.
From the perspective of a percussionist, Dave's favorite well-known bands span a wide range of styles and genres including: Chuck Mangione, Pat Metheny, Chicago, Maynard Ferguson, Steely Dan, The Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Joe Bonamassa, Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, The Jeff Beck Group, Santana, George Thorogood, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, the Allman Brothers, the Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Tedeschi Trucks, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Zac Brown, Charlie Daniels, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, etc.
He has high regard for a number of well-known drummers including: Buddy Rich (of course), Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Mangini, Max Roach, Billy Cobham, Tito Puente, Anton Fig, Greg Morrow, Russ Kunkel, Buddy Miles, Al Jackson, Jr., Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Hal Blaine, Jeff Hamilton, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Smith, Martin Vazquez, James Bradley, Jr., Joe Morello, Peter Erskine and beyond.
